Life in Redfern, 2016.
Redfern is the Brooklyn of New York! A little bit hipster, great green outdoor spaces, fantastic dining options, abundant culture, and a vibrant community of diverse individuals and families. Redfern went through a gentrification period post the 2004 Redfern riots.
It is no longer considered ‘cheap’ and real estate provides for a mix of beautiful terrace homes and newer style apartments.
Redfern serves as a fantastic location with walking distance to the CBD, the train station is accessible by all lines running through the city, and the new Sydney metro will service the south side of Redfern.
A few of my favourite things about Redfern:
Favourite pizza in Sydney - La Coppola Woodfire Pizza, not only does this family run restaurant make you feel like you are part of the family, the pizza is authentic and delicious. If you’re keen to eat in then be sure to book.
If you can’t get a booking at La Coppola, you can always order takeaway and enjoy with a drink across the road at Noble Hops. This craft beer bar is great for people watching, or a quiet chat in the courtyard out back.
Kepos St Kitchen is the cafe to go if you are after a hit of Israeli food. The shakshuka is delicious, and you can also pick up take away meals. I’d highly recommend the Ling Fish balls or the lasagne.
My favourite Redfern coffee is Calico, a 5min walk down from the station.
If you’re after a drink, then it is hard to nail down just on favourite, but Arcadia (also serve jaffles!), Bearded Tit, Misfits & Atomic Brewery are always good options.
Prince Alfred Park - whether it be a game of tennis, a swim, taking the dog off lead, or partaking in a fitness lesson, Prince Alfred Park makes you feel like you have left the city.
