Life in Alexandria , 2015.

Alexandria has been through a huge gentrification and transformation over the last 15 years. Shifting from a largely industrial and commercial area, to now being a suburb of residential first choice. To the north it provides great access into Redfern and the CBD, the centre point is the famous Grounds of Alexandria, and the western border is the amazing Sydney Park.

A few of my favourite things about Alexandria:

  • The Grounds of Alexandria; opened in 2012 and really put Alexandria on the map from a prime residential perspective. This café, roastery, bar, wedding venue, florist, farm, bakery - really a bit of everything! Dog friendly as well. Best to make a booking even if going during the week as it is pretty busy these days.

  • Sydney Park, the largest off lead dog park in Sydney not only has a small pond for dogs to cool off, but numerous playgrounds for kids, cycle paths, skate park and perfect hills for an afternoon picnic.

  • Sydney Corporate Park - where the name is not quite all it is. Also home to a number of great wet weather activities in Sydney including:

  • Tuga pastries offers one of, if not, the best crème brulee in Sydney

  • Bitton is one of my favourite go to French cafes and restaurants in Sydney

Major upcoming changes in Alexandria

Change is a constant; below are some of the major changes coming in the area

  • New Waterloo metro station: not specifically Alexandria, but will open up train/metro travel to the north east corner of Alexandria. Adjoining the Botany Road precinct is a large scale government backed project.

  • One Sydney Park is a large scale residential development that has had its fair share of controversy.

  • Bourke Road and Bowden Street is a significant commercial development

  • 58-68 Euston Road, currently pending council approval for a $25m redevelopment
